Case studies

12 case studies will be developed during the project at regional, national, continental and global scale. The case studies will serve as test-beds for the models, the integration methodologies and the Serious Game. In all the case studies, the aim is to study the Nexus trade-offs and the impact of different policies for the future. In all regional and national case studies, we are planning to engage local stakeholders and decision makers (actors) for the development and testing of the strategies, the policies, and the Serious Game. Stakeholders will be involved from the start of the project.

Region of Andalusia, Spain

Lead Partner: Technical University of Madrid

Irrigated agriculture is the main water user. The specific policy priorities related to the Nexus include sustainable water management, climate change mitigation and renewable energy. Key policy challenges are the major pressures on land and water as a result of urbanization and farming intensification, exploitation of water resources, inadequate consideration of the linkages between water saving technologies and energy use, and policy options to boost economic activity while reducing resource use and promoting sustainability. The following stakeholders are involved: Guadalquivir River Basin Authority, the Water and Environment Agency and several water users associations.
